So, a couple of weeks ago when Cherry and Mike Squire first walked into the gallery I had little idea of what was about to happen. They had seen my watercolour seascape of Crooklets Beach at Bude, really loved my style and wanted to commission something similar of perhaps Croyde or Saunton Sands for their refurbishment. Now, if their names aren't familiar at first glance most people in North Devon will know of Squires Fish Restaurant in Braunton. And I tell you, it ain't no ordinary 'chippy'!
Well, after much in-depth discussion about producing a watercolour painting we considered maybe a local beach or possibly local fisherman and the decision was made... they wanted me to do a painting of a crab... in oils!
Fine, no problem, I am adaptable. The brief was to be bright and colourful and in a loose style. A large impact piece (30 inches square) that would get noticed. Well, here is the result below, hope you like it.
So, if you find yourself in Braunton and are feeling hungry it's well worth visiting the newly refurbished and award winning SQ Fish Restaurant and while your at it you can enjoy some good British art too! What could be better?
