The 93rd Westward Ho! & Bideford Arts Society Annual Open Exhibition at the Burton in Bideford ended on Saturday which assembles some of the best artists in North Devon under one roof and, by all accounts, was another successful year. The standard of work is high and has to be scrutinised by a panel of eminent local artists before being accepted for the exhibition.
You may know that I entered some work and had two of my 'farmers at market' watercolours on show and was pleased to be nominated by the esteemed committee for the Ken Doughty Prize. I also found out yesterday that my painting 'Old Holsworthy Market' had received the prize for the 'most visitor votes' making it the favourite picture out of over 300 entries with the buying public.
So, I managed to achieve acclaim from both my peers and the masses, a humbling experience. Not only that but 'Old Holsworthy Market' sold as well, which is good because, as nice as it is, you can't live off praise alone! My other 'farmers at market' painting didn't sell but was the subject of a cheeky offer from a bargain hunter on the last day of the exhibition which I refused... I have standards!
All in all, I have to say I am pleased with the outcome. Sales and recognition, what more could an artist want? Well, there is only one thing left to say... thank you.
Below, the two farmers at market paintings are now available as framed Limited Edition Prints for £195.
