And it seems that it is the discerning buyer that is out and about at the moment, quality rather than quantity. Buyers seem to want big, impressive 'statement' pieces and it is those that are catching their eye at the moment.
There is one piece of art that has had people talking for a little while and it is Duncan Hopkins masterful seascape entitled 'Quiet Life'. A maelstrom of churning sea and surf, this encapsulated study draws you in as it beckons from the cliff top.
So why has Duncan called it Quiet Life? It's a question I have been asked many times and, do you know, I don't know the answer to that, I will have to ask him. Perhaps while studying the sea it is a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life, to enjoy a moment of solitude in this frantic world we live in, I don't know.
What I do know is we all want a little bit of the quiet life. Well, somebody does have it now. Duncan's mesmerising painting sold and now hangs in pride of place in a home in Bristol.
