After over 35 years as a professional artist I have learnt that although natural ability is a bonus, many of the disciplines of being an artist can actually be taught. Many people say "Oh, I can't draw.", but really it is simply about observation and learning a few simple techniques. It's then just practice, practice, practice! The South African golfer Gary Player, after being accused of being lucky, once famously said, "The more I practice, the luckier I get.". He also said, “Simply by making the effort to start something, you will be miles ahead of almost everyone else.”
And that's the point, most people give up on art at an early age saying they can't do it. Well, you can!
Here at West Gallery you can now learn to draw and paint exciting, dynamic watercolours whether you are a beginner or a more advanced artist, in our new range of workshops and classes. I will take you through the basics, step by step, to enable you to paint your own pictures using simple techniques so that you can finally express yourself.
If your watercolours are flat, boring, uninspiring and, frankly, just plain dull. If you want to paint exciting watercolours but don't think you can do it. If you have never painted since you were at school but would like to learn how or you want to learn to draw with confidence but don't believe you can, well, we have the answer.
In a choice of workshops and classes, I will attempt to bring out your inner self, that will free you up to paint loose, exciting watercolours, unlike many 'teachers' that will show you how to paint by numbers. It's about letting go, painting with confidence and enjoying your art.
We currently have four workshops and classes suitable for all levels of ability. If you have never painted watercolours before or you have dabbled a bit but now want to move on then I suggest our Watercolours Beginners Workshop. A three hour one-off session that will transform the way you think about using this medium. For those of you that have some experience of watercolours but feel you have hit a wall, try our Watercolours Advanced Workshop and learn to paint with freedom and expression.
Our Watercolour Classes are one hour sessions over 7 weeks allowing you time to develop your technique. If you struggle with drawing then try our Drawing Classes that will teach you how to observe and draw familiar objects, people and scenes. There's something for everybody, just let yourself go.
So that's two workshops and three classes... err, no, sorry... two classes. Oh, I don't know, just check out our Workshops page. I told you I was no good at maths!
