It is strange because you wouldn't think that national events would have such a major impact on little ol' rural Devon - but they always have done.
For us, a little calm is not the end of the world, we have a busy and exciting year ahead of us, so having some time to regroup is invaluable. Anyway, now the decision is made it's time to move on and work towards a positive future. When the dust settles and the whiners have calmed down - and that may take some time - I have no doubt that this country will go from strength to strength.
We here are already making plans to invest in this country, and Devon in particular, with spectacular plans for next year! More about that later in the year, watch this space!
Here in the gallery we meet people daily from all over the United Kingdom, Europe and indeed the entire world. I talk to people from all cultures, nationalities and social background and despite the apparent shock from the out of touch political elite and the liberal intelligentsia, the writing was on the wall long before the result was announced at 4.30 on Friday morning, and I for one, was not in the least bit surprised by the verdict of the British people.
We will still welcome people from all over Europe but more importantly now, we will not be stuck in a cul-de-sac of the EU going nowhere but free to forge our own future in a modern global marketplace.
It's time to celebrate our place in the world, to make new friends and promote the best of British. We have a proud history of innovation, creativeness and entrepreneurship and I am sure the young people of this country can and will continue this and benefit in the long run - even if they don't realise it yet!
But this is not about the past, it's about the future. And the future looks bright. Be positive!
