So, time to gather my thoughts and back to our series of featured artists. Something a little different this week. I would like to introduce to you John Fells, a wood turner living in Cornwall. Now, there are wood turners and there are wood turners, I have even done a bit myself, but there really is an art to it which only a few can truly master.
John started turning wood about 15 years ago and sold his wares around the fairs, markets and other events in Wanstead, Walthamstow and Greenwich in East London, with everything towed there from his workshop using his bicycle trailer. Now residing in St. Austell, John's work can be found at various events around Cornwall, and of course, here at West Gallery.
Why is John different from other wood turners? Well, John's designs are imaginative and unique. They are beautifully finished and lovingly created. He turns things out of wood that you would not dream of or even think possible. His attention to detail and delicate touch enable him to create beautiful objects that defy the natural materials he is using. His work is contemporary whilst maintaining traditional techniques.
You can see John's work here at West Gallery throughout the summer and let's hope it is a good one. So, the weather may be turning better but I don't think you will see better turning than that of John Fells!
Don't forget! The exhibition of Rob Walker’s seascapes ‘Changing Light’ is on at West Gallery, near Bradworthy, from 18th May to 21st June, every day, 10am to 5pm.
There are still spaces available for my Watercolour Workshop this Saturday 6th June. Go on, you know you want to!
