It got me thinking, however, it doesn't matter where you come from, what your age is, your level of experience and all those things, it seems that everybody is the same. The same bad habits, the same fear, the same preconceptions. It's like they all went to the same bad teacher. The good thing is I now know what to expect and can help aspiring artists to overcome their difficulties.
With painting watercolour there seems to be two main stumbling blocks and it's not what you think it is. Firstly, it is simply the way you hold the brush. Yep, you wouldn't believe how many people struggle with this, no matter how many times I tell them! Secondly, it's mixing the paint, getting the right combination of pigment and water. Sometimes too dry or not enough pigment or not enough pigment and water and so on. I will admit this is quite difficult at first and only comes with practice. Once you have mastered these two simple steps you can paint anything, no really!
Drawing is another matter. Some people have a natural ability to see things, others don't. But again, it is more about technique, the quality and confidence of line that you apply to the paper. Similarly, this is about practice but I can guide you through the process so that you can achieve stunning watercolours in just a few simple steps.
It really is very easy and the only person complicating it is you. Leave your baggage behind, come with an open mind and you will be amazed at what you can achieve!
